Furniture · ESPR working plan 2025-2030

A product passport for furniture. You have time to do it calmly.

The delegated act for furniture is expected in 2028, with obligations around 2029-2030. A QR code with the assembly manual, the parts list and the origin of materials works today and takes repetitive calls off your desk.

Two passports free, no card. When the act arrives you fill in the fields, and the address and QR code stay.

See where you are. You have no deadline yet.

Furniture is in the ESPR working plan, but work on the act is only starting. Being in the plan does not yet settle a passport obligation.

In force

ESPR since 18 Jul 2024

The Ecodesign Regulation gives the Commission the basis for passports. On its own it does not impose one on your furniture.

Live

DPP registry since 20 Jul 2026

The central Commission registry is already live. It is infrastructure, not your deadline, and it changes nothing in your production.

Expected

Delegated act ~2028

It will settle which data, at what level and on which carrier. Mattresses get a separate act, around 2029.

Obligation ~2029-2030

At least 18 months after the act is adopted. The passport then has to be on the product, the packaging or the documentation.

Act + min. 18 months

Customers ask for this today. The rules will add the rest.

The assembly manual, spare parts and timber origin are what customers call about. ESPR lets the Commission require more, and the passport keeps all of it under one code.

You start in four steps. The code goes on the label or into the manual.

The passport is a page under a permanent address. You change the manual or the parts list in the panel, and the code on the furniture stays the same.

01

You enter the model

Name, photo, dimensions, materials and finish. One passport per model or per batch.

02

You add manuals and parts

The assembly manual as a PDF, a numbered parts list, a contact for service and spare parts.

03

You set access

Customers see the manual and the origin; service gets the drawings and part numbers.

04

You publish

A permanent address and a QR code for the label, the packaging or the manual, in SVG, EPS and PNG.

Furniture passport questions. Short, with the source.

From when must furniture have a digital product passport?

There is no such obligation today. The ESPR working plan foresees a delegated act for furniture around 2028, with obligations around 2029-2030.

Are mattresses covered by the same act?

No. Mattresses are a separate item in the working plan, with an act expected around 2029.

Where do I put the QR code on furniture?

On the product, the packaging or the documentation, depending on what the delegated act specifies (ESPR Article 9). Today the simplest is the label and the assembly manual.

Do I need a GTIN and GS1 membership?

No. GS1 Digital Link with a GTIN is one option, and a passport can also have a permanent address without a GTIN. More in Do you need GS1 for a DPP.

What if the passport provider disappears?

The regulation requires a backup copy of the passport with an independent provider (ESPR Article 10(4)). In DPPera you export the data at any time, in an open format.
