Legal framework
- ESPR has applied since 18 July 2024.
- The central DPP registry has been live since 20 July 2026.
- This is done, and it is not your deadline.
Find your industry. Check whether you have a deadline at all.
Passport categories come from two different sources of law. If your industry is in neither table, that is good news, and it is written below as such, instead of pretending a deadline is around the corner.

Most dates circulating online are not your deadlines.
Every category goes through the same three steps, and only the last one matters for your production.

Delegated act
- The Commission adopts the detailed rules for your category.
- It settles which data, which granularity and which carrier.
- The dates in the tables below are this step.

Enforcement
- At least 18 months after the act.
- This is the date that matters for production and for labels.
- Your real deadline is the act plus the transition period, not the act itself.

Being in the working plan does not automatically mean a passport obligation. It means the group is sent into a study and impact assessment, which will only then decide whether a DPP is the right tool for that category and what the compliance date will be. The Commission says so itself in its FAQ.
Source two. Passports that do not come from ESPR.
Separate regulations with their own scope and their own deadlines. You will not find this list at vendors, because it spoils the simple story of "ESPR equals DPP".

Table follows the sector legislation table in the European Commission DPP FAQ. For toys the regulation applies from 1 August 2030, while the passport delegations apply from 1 January 2026. These are two different dates and must not be confused.
The third option. You are in neither table. That is not a mistake.
Most products sold in the EU have no passport deadline and may never get one. We say so plainly, because this is information nobody pays us for.
Cosmetics, saunas and spa, interior fittings
None of these groups is in the first ESPR working plan and none has a deadline today. They may enter the next cycle, but nobody knows that today, and anyone claiming otherwise is selling you fear.
A passport makes sense here for a different reason: the manual and certificate under the code, proof of origin against cheap imports, fewer repetitive phone calls.
Food and feed
Explicitly excluded from ESPR in Article 1(2) of the regulation. This is not "not yet", it is "no".
A QR code with a product page can still make sense for marketing, but we do not call it a compliance passport and we do not sell it under a deadline that will not come.

Where the numbers come from: the working plan from the Commission FAQ (question 5, plan adopted 16 Apr 2025), non-ESPR passports from the sector legislation table in the Commission FAQ, batteries from Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 Article 77. If you find a discrepancy, write to us; we will correct it and date the correction.
